Dried Fruit

Since my husband loves apple crisps I decided to dry our own fruit instead of buying it. I do not have a fruit dehydrator. Not much place to put another appliance but I think it would cut down on the time and the gas bill. If you have a dehydrator I’d love to know how long it takes for you.

So I cored the apples and slices them thin with my mandolin and then placed the slices in a little bit of lemon juice to prevent browning. I lined baking sheets with parchment paper and stacked a cooling rack on top of one of the baking sheets to get more in the oven at one time. We sprinkled the apples with cinnamon.

I set the oven to 170 degrees, propped it open by sticking a wooden spoon in the door so the moisture can escape. It took about 8 hours to be “perfect”. Hubbie’s words after he tried them 🙂

Make sure you store them in an air tight container.
